First Time
Your first class is the first step in the right direction towards a healthier, happier you!
Your first time coming to hot yoga can be exciting but also nerve-wracking! Don't worry - We are here to support you and help make your first class as good as it can be.
Here's some information to read and digest before your first class..
Preparing for your first class
Drink plenty of water so that you arrive fully hydrated - aim for 2-3 litres. You will be sweating a lot! It is always better to be hydrated well before class than to drink a lot in the actual class as this can make you feel sick.
Arrive early - give yourself at least 10 minutes to get signed in, get familiar with where things are and find your spot in the studio, and its always good to have at least 5 minutes in the hot room to ‘acclimatise’ before the class starts.
Make sure you have eaten but not too much! Similar to swimming; we recommend you eat at least 2-3 hours before class. Practicing on a full stomach or very empty stomach may make you feel nauseous or faint. A banana is a great snack if you need something closer to class.
What to bring
A yoga mat (or cash/card for rental mats and towels)
A large towel or even better a yoga mat towel (these are designed especially to fit on your yoga mat) and an optional second towel for wiping yourself down after class
A large bottle of water
Light clothing. It’s always best to wear something breathable and tight fitting such as shorts, t-shirt/vest or sports bra. Men can go shirtless if preferred. Baggy clothing can be uncomfortable when sweaty and difficult for the teacher to see your posture
An open-mind! Get ready to sweat, stretch and smile!
During & After class
Take a spot towards the back of the room for your first few classes so the people in front of you can be your guide
Place your towel on top of your mat, lay down and rest before the class begins
Hold off drinking water until the first water break at the end of the warm up (around 15 mins)
Take it easy! Your first class is about acclimatising with the heat and getting used to the experience of practicing in the hot room; it's okay to sit down and take breaks whenever you need to
Try to stay in the room so that your body can get used to the heat. If you feel overwhelmed, sit down and focus on your breath - those sensations will pass!
After class stay in the room for a few minutes and enjoy your savasana so that you can take it all in and cool down
Hydrate well and come back again as soon as you can! Try to leave no longer than 72 hours before your next class so that you can continue the detoxification process you have started in your body
